1. Sweet and lovely but I prefer Emmy as a nickname; I don't generally like nicknames as given names: 7.

2. Rich and delicate at the same time: 9.

3. Simple, but that's part of it's charm -- like Emma, or Leah. Karen is ageless: 8.

4. Classical and rhythmic: 9.

5. Something feels awkward about this name to me -- I love Lauren but just feel a little uncomfortable with Louren: 6.

6. Likewise, I love Laura but feel strange about Loura (Loura actually makes me more uncomfortable than Louren): 6.

7. Ingrid is kind of a fascinating name -- a pleasant surprise, not a shock: 8.

8. There is certainly something lovely about Iris. It is classical but different -- without being "too different": 8.

9. Franceli is not a name I have ever heard? How is it pronounced? Fran-SELL-ee or fran-CHELL-ee? I like the quirky spice of either choice: 8.

10. You can only go so wrong with Isabel. It is beautiful: 8.

11. I'm not sure how Danitzah (dan-IHT-tsah? dan-EET-tsah?) is pronounced, but reading the name gave me an unpleasant jolt in my stomach. There is something abrasive about it, especially in the midst of so many lovely names: 4.

12. Again, I am not sure how this name is pronounced (ahl-IHT-tsah? ahl-EET-tsah?), but I like the idea of it. It has a quirky but quite pretty sound: 7.

13. Gaby sounds masculine to me, and I do not like boys' names for girls, but it is undoubtedly cute, and I believe it can be a nickname for Gabriella (although, as I have already noted, I also don't take to nickname for full names): 6.

14. Stephanie is a breath of sweetness: 7.

15. I love Elizabeth for its classicality and can't-possibly-go-wrong, always-expected-but-never-unpleasant flavor: 9.

16. Kimberly is a sweet and kicky choice. I love Kimberly, and I love Kim: 9.

17. I do not like Ashley. It strikes me as abrasive and has been worn thin over the years. Not to mention it sounds masculine to me (it WAS originally a boys' name!): 4.

18. One must be cautious with respellings, but this is a stunningly beautiful variant of Lillian: 10.

19. Angie makes my stomach hurt a little. I love Angela, but ...: 3.

20. Again, I don't like nicknames on the birth (or adoption) certificate. I love Bella as a short form of Isabel/Isabelle/Isabella, and I love the sound of the name -- I just don't like the idea of any nickname as a given name: 7.

21. Daisy is cute and sweet -- but doesn't really go beyond cute and sweet for me: 7.

22. I don't know how to say Desy (DEZZ-ee? DAY-zee?), but I like the idea of Desy as a twist on Daisy. The problem is that most people would almost surely misread it: 5.

23. Norma is a lovely and old-fashioned but potentially resurrected choice for girls: 8.

24. Linette, like Daisy only goes so far for me. It is very much just okay: 6.

25. Karina sounds like a dance!: 7.

26. Jasmine is pretty but is merely pretty for me. I like it, but don't love it. It is ... well, it's fine. It's pretty. But ... you know. (I must admit that my opinion of this name has been clouded somewhat by a particular Jasmine, so I can't offer solid advice): 6.

27. Berlin (ber-LINN? ber-LEEN? berr-LEEN?) As a name? Really. Hmm: 6.

28. Maria, like Elizabeth and Isabel is pretty much a mistake-proof choice. I love that it is classical, multicultural, and beautiful: 10.

29. Marie is a sweet name. I am a little tired of Marie as a middle name choice, but I love it as a first name: 9.
