The Special Sax and Woodwind Player - J. Flanders
Saxophone Man Flanders continues to be probably the most sought after saxophone performers in Salt Lake more than a decade. You are able to catch him on tv or radio, in addition to television shows along with video sound tracks. In addition to being a prominent leader of bands as well as studio artist, Flander's performances have garnered cheers from both experts and fans, creating an ever growing status as a writer and musical arranger.
John has picked up countless prestigious Metropolitan Regular Best of Utah awards as an saxophonist plus together with his varied jazz music bands. He has played the Star Spangled Banner alone at NBA games, performed with the Utah Symphony, and toured Switzerland, Italy, France and more. John's freelancing has resulted in shows with the Temptations, Billy Preston, Solomon Burke, Wayne Newton, Frankie Avalon, Rodney Dangerfield, Don Rickles, and many others. John's bands have been seen main stage at the Park City International Jazz Fest, they have headlined jazz festivals, in Colorado, as well as the Salt Lake Jazz Fest.
Flanders likes to keep performing with various groups, trios, quartets, countrywide bands and even symphonies. Only one thing is certain, no matter where you discover John playing he's going to turn out to be enjoying himself, digging what the other performers bring to the show, and then his enthusiasm for music, flowing from his saxophone.
John Flanders was born in Canton OH, studied at OSU and at U of C. John's learned with players like Ted Nash and Lou Donaldson, Ernie Krivda, and Eddie Daniels. He's performed in The Big Apple and also resided and performed within L . A .. The oceans are no stranger to this jazz man either, as he put in many years jamming in cruise ship bands while John backed up a wide range of Vegas shows and entertainers. He's taught professionally for more than 15 years and carried out university talks on jazz music history.
Flander's jazz fusion based group, Double Helix, has been around since 2001 and also have released 4 unique high energy and contrasting compact disks that blend jazz, latina, funk, and fusion with Flanders on saxes and flutes, Pat Terry guitars, Evan Coombs bass, Bob Smith on drums, Wayne Christiansen on acoustic piano, John Flanders on elctric piano, and a variety of percussion players. The recordings also boast a few musical stars as Alex Acuna (weather report, u2, etc.), Mike Miller (Yellowjackets), and Will Lee (David Letterman Band) Double Helix has its own sound, each and every compact disc seriously covers a substantial portion of diverse musical styles to help keep the listener being attentive and hooked on some cool tunes!
