Scunthorpe local infromation
Scunthorpe is known by most people as been a big industrial town dominated by the steel works. Although there is also much more to it. Attractions around Scunthorpe include a museum, art gallery, the Plowright theatre and visual arts centre. Which include exhibitions and activities which so far has over 400,000 visitors.
With beautiful parks like Normanby Hall Country Park and central park which is currently in development, including the building of a brand new main leisure centre. With the baths hall been developed to which will be our own entertainment centre, with performances lined up from The Saturdays, Kate Nash and Dizzee Rascal.
Celebritys that well known to Scunthorpe with the likes of Liz Smith, Nana from the royal family. Tony Jacklin golfer playing in the 60s. Other sports men are Kevin Keegan and Ian Botham England cricket legend. Ian was not known to Scunthorpe for his cricket but for his football which he professional for the iron. Making his debut in march 1980 making eleven apperances.
Scunthorpe RUFC play there rugby union and the barbarians play there rugby league at Heslam park. With speedway at the local Eddie wright stadium hosts for "Scunthorpe Scorpions" who play in the premier league.
Scunthorpe also has one of the most impressive golf courses the Briggate lodge with many visitors and celebritys playing there including Chelsea football team recently.With a beautiful restaurant and hotel with a gym and spa.
The steel works which has recently changed hands to the Indian company Tata. With around 4,500 people employed by Tata but not a patch on the 27,000 that used be employed by British steel.
