Time Management That Most Impacts Your Business
Time is an replaceable resource. This article is dedicated to helping you get things done that will most impact your business success.
Never enough
No matter what your age, gender, lifestyle or business, you have only 24 hours in a day. Those people who feel there are never enough hours usually are experiencing conflict in their minds between what they're doing and what they want to do or feel they should do.
Time management involves controlling your time. If you analyze the reasons you feel out of control, you'll find you fear something; failure, success, rejection. Whatever the reason, the solution is the same: concentrate on activity. Just do it.
What's the first step?
Written goals. Schedule an appointment with yourself to list all the things you want to accomplish in all areas of your life: business, family, social, spiritual, personal, and financial. Set goals for at least three years ahead, if possible 10 years. Then break that time frame in five, three, and one-year increments. Once you have one year goals, break those into six months, three months, one month, next week, tomorrow.
Next you need a calendar
Get a month calendar with room on each day to write in scheduled events such as meetings and appointments.
At the beginning of each month, list goals you will work on from your written list. Each day, fill in the day schedule from the monthly calendar. First, fill in the scheduled meetings and appointments for the next day. It's best to plan tomorrow as you finish today, while your mind is active and working with your goals. Then list the activities related to the goals you will accomplish. Beside each activity, jot down the amount of time you anticipate spending on the activity. Add up the total time.
Look at your workday schedule
Allocate time for sleep, dressing, eating, etc. How much time is left for your listed activities? Now number each activity in order of priority, including all areas of your life. Do not plan to accomplish more than you have time for.
When you begin the next day, it's already mapped for you, and your mind has been aware of your plans while you slept. Start with item number one and work through the day. When you have interruptions, simply go back to your schedule and pick up again. You do not have to spend time thinking, "What am I trying to accomplish today?"
At the end of the day, plan tomorrow. Then take a few minutes to write down what you did well today; visualize it and pat yourself on the back! You'll notice a difference and will want to continue because you realize you are now controlling your time.
