Which will make our house more likely to sell, plain white walls or colored ones?
We're planning on putting our home on the market soon and my husband wants to leave all the walls white and fairly plain (other than a few pictures that decorate). I would like to paint the wall on both sides of the brick fireplace burgundy as an accent wall for warmth. My husband thinks not only should we not paint anything, but we should remove what we have on the walls (pictures) as well as some furniture. Who is right?
No burgundy. Perhaps a beige accent wall to go with the white walls. A few pictures are fine, but not of family. Remove most, but not all knick-knacks and family photos. Unclutter, even if it means renting a storage unit while you sell. Clean out the closets so they appear roomy, and the kitchen cabinets. If you want to add a little color, a nice quilt on a bed is great and you can take it with you when you leave. Dark walls are not a good idea at all, and hard to paint over. Some furniture could go if it makes the room look larger and simpler. I'm afraid hubby wins. There are lots of sites and even some professionals on staging your home for sale. I hired a housekeeper to come once a week while my house was for sale and it was worth every penny!
