Who is your favorite character from Serenity and Firefly?
What about the character appeals to you most?
There's just something about her. She's a nerd girl, and I just love nerd girls.
There's nothing wrong with Zoe (and adore Gina Torres' performance), but the tough-as-nails woman is something I've seen before. (It was nice to see her genuine passion and fondness for Wash, a trait usually written badly in that archetype). I just don't see enough women on TV for whom intellect is their most important trait without making them basically men-with-breasts, and she combines it with a charming good nature that makes her irresistible to me. I can't think of any other character like her.
There's a scene in Shindig where she's surrounded by attractive men, all gazing adoringly at her, while she dispenses sagely about the various kinds of spaceship engines... that's my favorite moment in the entire series.
I'll give a strong honorable mention to Jayne, if only for Adam Baldwin's fantastic performance. It would be so easy to dislike Jayne, and it takes tremendous charisma to pull the role off. Baldwin can pop off the one liners ("I'll be in my bunk") and give them a life of their own.
Whedon and his well-trained writing staff deserve huge credit for that, but in my opinion it was Baldwin who really made the character work. I actually believe he's a more talented actor than Jewel Staite, whom I didn't like nearly as much on Wonderfalls, but she and Kaylee clicked so fantastically that she made Kaylee my favorite character.
